More reading up...

So I've been reading a lot about "urban art" online the past few days and just seeing what kind of information the main stream media give to it. And there seems to be quite a few entries on the subject when you type it into google, but yet at the same time they don't really give to much detail about the work itself. They cover who the artist is, where the work is located, who is sponsoring the work, and then maybe they will describe it in a few sentences but that is about the actual piece.

One of the more interesting articles that I was able to find was the first article that showed up in my search was this article about these two graffiti artist who more or less had a competition, they called it a "battle". The whole thing took place out of Oakland, CA, and they say that it was the first organized battle between two graffiti artist ever held. By the way they were describing the whole event they made it sound like it was a very friendly event, which is kind of what urban art is about.

Another super interesting article that I found was one about good old Banksy. That there is one of his works that people are not sure if it is art or if it is just vandalism. They go back and forth about what people think about it, and how others have to clean other items such as images like that all the time that would just be considered vandalism. Everyday they are cleaning up Vandalism, they say that just becuase it was made by Bansky that it still should be considered vandalism and taken down. But the problem comes in that if they do take it down that people would be upset becuase people have such a strong opinion of his work that they are afrid of some type of backlash.

Is Banksy Croydon-Beddington mural vandalism or art?

There was another article about how one of Banksy's work had been tag over by "envious artist" as sow as reposted in the article.
